The 1890 census brought an end to the territorial status, and Idaho was admitted to the Stae of the Union on July 3, 1890 as the 43rd State. The original federal census of 1890 was fragramented because on January 10, 1921 in Washington D.C. the Commerce Department had been destroyed by fire with these records, so the State of Idaho was lost in that castrophic event. The following five counties had been organized by the territorial legislatures:

(1) Latah (14 May 1888)
(2) Custer (8 Jan 1881)
(3) Elmore (7 Feb 1889)
(4) Bingham (12 jan 1885)
(5) Logan (Feb 1889)

In 1895 however, Alturas and Logan counties were completely abolished, and several new counties were created in its place.
